The Mouling National Park was created in 1986. It is spread primarily over the Upper Siang district and parts of the West Siang and East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh. It was the second national park to be created in the state, after Namdapha National Park in 1972. Mouling national park covers an area of about 483 sq.km forming the western part of the Dihang-Dibang Biosphere Reserve. The terrain is rugged with an altitudinal range of 750m to 3064m MSL at the highest point, the Mouling Peak. Siyom River flows along the western fringes of the park and several small rivers such as the Siring, Krobong, Semong and Subong drain into the Siang River near the eastern boundary of the park.
Mouling National Park and the Dibang Wildlife Sanctuary are located partly within Dihang-Dibang Biosphere Reserve. The name Mouling has been derived from highest peak named Mouling as per local faith and belief. The genetic and ecological features of the Mouling National Park are one of the unique and classic examples of wide bio-diversity and its balance in the natural forests of eastern Himalayas. The abrupt juxtaposition of many different biotopes or life zone ranging from 3064m to 5000m is the transit zone between tropical to cold and it is favorable condition for the varieties of plant and animal growth. The richness and varieties of flora and fauna is perhaps unequal on the earth. Such characteristic genetic and ecological diversity is a very rare phenomenon observed at Mouling NP.
The Park is under the administrative control of the Divisional Forest Office located in Jengging and the nearest major towns are Along and Pasighat located 130 km and 185 km from the park respectively. Approach to the park is not possible via roads, due to the remoteness of the area and communication facilities in the area are poor. The nearest airfield is in Along. The Park has two ranges; the Ramsing range accessible from the Bomdo village and the Jengging range accessible from the Lissing village.
