Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary is in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, India. From Bomdila it is around 50 kilometers away. The nearest airport is at Tezpur and the nearest railway station is at Bhalukpong. The Sanctuary is well connected by road to the Tawang – Tezpur road. The total area of the sanctuary is 217 Sq.km bordering Sessa orchid sanctuary in Northeast and Pakke TR on Eastern boundary. The area has steep uphill mountainous range with deep valley along the Kameng River with clear flying sky. Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary is in the Eastern Himalaya Biodiversity Hotspot and globally renowned for its rich biodiversity.

The sanctuary is a dome for the variety of birds, especially hornbill, eagle, kingfishers, pheasant, ducks etc. The area has series of mini water-falls all along the Bomdilla road with picturesque beauty of nature having Kameng River flowing through the thick lush green canopy of tropical vegetation. The sanctuary is home to the Bugun community which is known for its conservation initiatives in the whole country. In 2016, a new species of bird was discovered in this area which was named as Bugun liocichla after the Bugun community. It is still called birder’s paradise for the immense variety of avifauna found in the sanctuary area.

The sanctuary is also home to rare butterflies like the Ludlow’s Bhutan Glory (Bhutanitis ludlowi), Tibetan brimstone and endangered plants including some magnificent Rhododendrons species. Besides this spectacular diversity, large ranging species such as Asiatic elephant (Elephus maximus), Indian gaur (Bos gaurus) and Wreathed hornbill (Rhyticeros undulatus) use the habitats within the sanctuary.
