The Pakke Tiger Reserve & Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most important and major
Tiger habitats of Arunachal Pradesh. The Headquarter of Pakke Tiger Reserve is in
small
town named Seijosa under Pakke Kessang district. The town can be accessed via
approach
road on Guwahati – Dibrugarh highway at approx. 30km. The nearest airport is
Hollongi
Airport, Itanagar which is108 kms away and nearest railway station is at Tezpur
around
53 kms.
Pakke Wildlife Sanctuary lies in the undulating and hilly foothills of the Eastern
Himalayas in Pakke Kessang District of Arunachal Pradesh at elevations ranging from
150m
to 2000m MSL.It is surrounded by contiguous forests on most sides. Towards south and
south-east, the sanctuary adjoins reserve forests and Assam's Nameri National Park
and
to the west, it is bounded by Doimara Reserve Forest and Eaglenest Wildlife
Sanctuary.
The main perennial streams in the area are the Nameri, Khari and Upper Dikorai.
The area of TR at the foot hills includes a portion of valley and riverine which has
a
peculiar association of species. Passing through the stretch of Northern tropical
semi
evergreen forest one gradually notices the change in the ecological condition of the
vegetation representing the Northern tropical evergreen forests. Most of the hill
slopes
and upper reaches the vegetation is more of evergreen whereas along the river course
for
a few distance the vegetation is more of riverine and deciduous, occasionally
meeting
with cane and Bamboo breaks.
