Dibang Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Dibang Valley District of Arunachal Pradesh
having district headquarter at Anini. The total area of the Dibang Wildlife
Sanctuary is
4149 sq.km. This Sanctuary forms part of Dihang-Dibang Biosphere Reserve which is a
part
of one of the Biodiversity Hotspots of the world. It lies at confluence of
Biogeographic
realms of Indo-China and Myanmar, making it highly diverse.
The geography of the Sanctuary area is Mountainous, consisting steep to very steep
and
rugged terrain. The altitude varies from 1800 mean sea level to 5000 (mean sea
level).
It houses Kahaiwhite snow lake near the international Indo-China border named after
the
highest peak locally called “Kahaii Kala”. The vegetation of Dibang Wildlife
Sanctuary
is of temperate and alpine type. The composition of flora depends mainly on the
locality
factor i.e. climatic, topographic, edaphic and biotic factors.
The major animal species found in the Sanctuary includes, Bengal Tiger, Clouded
Leopard,
Asiatic Golden Cat, Leopard Cat, Marbled Cat, Asiatic Wild dog, Asiatic Wild dog,
Asiatic Wild dog, Asiatic Black bear, Spotted Linsang, Yellow-throated Marten, Stone
Marten, Red Panda, Smooth Coated Otter, Eurasian Otter, Yellow-bellied Weasel,
Siberian
Weasel, Barking deer, Gongshan Muntjac, Himalayan Serow, Red Goral, Musk deer, etc.
The
herbivores found are Goral, Takin, Serow and Musk Deer. Migration of population
takes
place due to food crises during seasonal variation. Among this carnivores are snow
leopards in high altitudes and clouded leopard in the lower latitudinal zone found
here.
